When starting to develop Berberis, in 2000, we already had quite an experience in constructing software solutions for big enterprises. We decided to create a CRM system, joining together good organization patterns, typical for corporations with the flexibility required by SME. During all those years the system has evolved to become finally something what people call ERP. However, Mr Customer has always occupied a central position in it.
As to CRM systems, Berberis has always been different from the majority of them – the so-called customer's card was not a fundamental entity, but rather just one of several possible views of data. The concept of a modern, multidimensional view of collected information allows the user to make quickly every cross-section he needs, not only on the analytical level, but also on the operational one.
Parallel to working on typical CRM functions we have been doing our best to develop also sales support module, since sales crowns each sequence of customer related activities. On the other hand, sales needs store management and manufacturing, thus, as a result, we have managed to build a universal system meeting important needs of every enterprise.
Alternatively, Berberis can interchange data with external accountancy software, provided the appropriate interfaces have been specified by its manufacturers.
Berberis can be powered either by Oracle or by PostgreSQL database management system.

Berberis supports various kinds of businesses: trade companies, services, manufacturers. It can operate on a few machines as well as on a few hundreds of them. However, the larger number of users, the more evident the profits – Berberis supports the group work, work flow and procedures (e.g., ISO 9001:2000).

Description

Our Berberis bush consists of the following modules:

Tignum - Stalk, Contact with customers module (operational CRM)
Since Mr. Customer occupies the most important position in each company he also plays the central role in our system and the entire sophisticated structure of the software is based on this very module.


Flos - Flower, Sales module
A flower is a crown of a stalk, and sales crowns the efforts of sales people. Finally, an issued invoice is what the company management really expects.

Radix - Root, Stores module
The backstage of the system, hidden like a root under the ground. However, without it the functioning of a company would hardly be possible.

Ramus- The Manufacturing Support Module
This module supports the management of an entire manufacturing process, starting from an operation sheet.


Cortex - Bark, Technical support module
A supplementary part of a plant and of our CRM as well. Nevertheless, sales rarely is the last contact with a customers and a professional support constitutes a good background for further cooperation.

Spina - Spike, Administrative tool
This module allows one to configure various parameters of the system, including user rights. Thus, just like thorns, it protects confidential data from an unauthorized access.

Folium - Leaf, Finance module
Managing worktime, expenses, dues and liabilities is very important for each company - as important as are leaves for a plant.


Bacca - Fruit, Data analysis and reporting module (analytical CRM)
Synthetic information on custmers and on a company itself is the fruit of collecting data process. Comprehensive analysis and cross-section reports can be made in order to get it.

GemmaGemma – Bud, web access module
This is a primordium of applications, which can then be developed to meet specific users’ needs. Gemma provides you with an engine to offer system functionalities through web pages.

Querino - The Accountancy Module
It has been developed by Queris, our business partner, well experienced in software for accountancy. By means of Querino you can not only make entries, but also perform various related analyses (turnover, balances, costs, sales, purchases, etc.)

Pricelist

If you run a small company you can start with our simple application supporting managing business contacts. This nice tool is available for 99 Euro an can be used on a single computer. As your company grows you can add new important functionalities and expand this simple installation to very many workstations. The bush of Berberis will continuously grow too. You will never have to migrate your data or change the software interface. You will never loose your money as well. Whatever version you choose to upgrade to, you will just have to pay the difference of the corresponding license fee.

Generally, two kinds of licenses are offered: the unlimited time (current fees are given below) or renewable (which fees are 30% of the unlimited time ones, per year). The second option is not available for the Minor version.

In case of the unlimited time license an annual subscription is offered, being 20% of the original license fee. It gives you full access to all updates of the software. The first year is always free of charge.

All prices listed below are net (no VAT included).

Berberis Minima
Berberis Minima can be used on a single computer only. The application supports the full evidence of customers and business contacts, task planning, serial mailing etc. The functionalities related to store management, technical support, invoicing and manufacturing are not available in CRM Berberis Minima. However, this simple application can be compared to a seed from which a mature bush will grow in the future.

Berberis MultiMinima
The multiuser version of Berberis Minima. Besides all Minima functionalities, it also supports the groupware and document flow within the company.

Berberis Minor
Berberis Minor is still a small cutting and it still can be used on a single computer only. However, it supports simple store management and invoicing (both limited to a single store and single currency), but with all other features of a mature bush. Defining business processes, managing users rights, billing working time and extra expenses or performing comprehensive analysis are not available. Roughly speaking, it is simple, easy in growing and perfect for a small company.

Berberis Aggregata
This version is dedicated for small but exacting enterprises. It is sold as quite a mature bush, of various size and shape, so you can always find something suitable for your garden without loss of functionality, of course.

All the modifications and improvements we introduce within 12 months from the date of  purchase are yours for free! Below we list a number of new functionalities you can expect in the near future:

FAQ

Who is Berberis for?

So far Berberis is used mostly by small and middle-sized enterprises of various industries. Our customers are e.g., trading companies, manufacturers, consultants, law chambers, but also public institutions.

Is Berberis a flexible solution?

Yes. Berberis is highly configurable. The administartive tools allow the user e.g.,:

  • to add to the database new columns describing contractors, repertories, events, projects, goods etc. according to the company needs,
  • to design templates of printed documents (invoices, offers, orders etc.),
  • to create templates of new, untypical printed documents,
  • to build templates of business processes,
  • to create special data processing scripts, reflecting specific company needs, in particular performing data exchange with other software,
  • to establish new report templates,
  • to modify names of various entities and adjust the frontend look to the user's needs.

 

Is Berberis an integrated system?

It depends on what you mean by integrated. All external activities of the enterprise i.e., these which are directed to customers including advance sale, sale, technical support and store management are supported by Berberis. Options connected with the internal enterprise activity such as accountancy module or staff - billing module are not available in the system. As the accountancy is an inseparable part of the sales and stores, a software which is specially integrated with Berberis can be bought by our customers. It is highly recommended to use the Firma FK system of PWSK company which ensures not only the automatic data transferring between Berberis and the system itself but also creating cross-sectional reports based on data which are stored in both systems.

Is an accountancy module available in Berberis?

No. However, Berberis can be supported by external accountancy applications. See the answer below.

Can Berberis be supported by external accountancy applications?

Yes. There is a special engine governing external PHP scripts and it can be used to exchange data with other applications, provided they have an open interface. So far this kind of system connection has already been established between Berberis and a number of accountancy applications offered on a local market. Generally, Berberis simply automatically exports (e.g., once a day) all the necessary information to a given format.

Does the system support the groupware?

Yes. Documents and tasks can be transferred among the users. Moreover, templates of business processes can be defined within the system.

Does Berberis work over the internet?

Yes. The system has been designed to minimize the quantity of data transmitted between the server and the client software. Therefore Berberis works efficiently not only over the local area networks but also over the wide ones, which in principal are much slower. It is highly recommended to use VPN connections encrypting data in order to ensure the proper confidentiality level.

On which platform does Berberis work?

The database server (Oracle or PostgreSQL) can be installed either on Windows or on Unix (e.g., Linux). The client software is dedicated for Windows XP (SP2) or Vista.

Are confidential data protected from an unauthorized access?

Yes. Each user has an individual account and an individual password. User rights are determined by assigning particular persons to an appropriate group of employees and defining privileges of that group. Thus, e.g., a user can enter some data but cannot modify them.

What happens if the program 'hangs'?

Several reasons why the system hangs can be mentioned here: a malfunction of hardware or of the network infrastructure, an instability of the operating system, virus activity, or internal application errors which were not eliminated despite all the appropriate testing procedures. As it is known, errors occur in every software. However, thanks to the transactional data processing, even if the client application hangs, the data stored in the central database will not be damaged.

Is it possible to transfer data from a 'previous' system to Berberis?

In principal yes, but it depends on how the 'previous' system manages the data. In course of implementation we often migrate user's data. However, in most cases it turns out that the information is of very poor quality, so that a time-consuming and arduous cleaning must be performed.

Is a demo version available?

Yes, but currently only in Polish. The full English demo version of CRM Berberis will be available soon.

How much does the implementation cost?

The cost strongly depends on the specific user needs. However, in most cases it can be roughly estimated as 50-100% of the license fee.

In fact, there is no company being able to take advantage of all functionalities offered, although some ideas of our customers seem to be surprising even for us!
